"What do you want?" growled the box.

"Would you like a metal social security card sir?" I asked.

The box paused with no answer for just a few seconds.

"Is this the kid that keeps trying to sell me things?" the box wanted to know.

Ah ha! I learned that the box cannot see. It can only hear and speak.

"I do not know if I am that kid sir," I replied.

"I do not want to buy anything. Please do not come to my door anymore," the box asked politely.

"Yes sir, thank you sir," I replied and was off.

The novelty of the box was starting to wear off. I was not really that excited about it anymore, but it was still a neat device.

About this time my mother was recruited to start selling Amway products. I asked her if I could help sell them also and she said that I could bring orders to her.

We had never heard of the Amway company all we knew about them was that they sold cleaning products.

I made a small sign, copying the Amway logo on it, and then sealed it with clear shelving plastic. We hung it on our front porch and off I went to the doors to get Amway customers for my mother.

I went to all my usual doors, 100 or more I am sure, offering our new cleaning products. However when people saw the prices they were not convinced to purchase.

This was a new realm of sales for me. All the products I had sold before were fairly well understood and small cost.

I did not have a real understanding yet of the cost of things so I was confused about the responses of the high price. I assured them that the company was doing very well and must be making good products. This approach did not work for me.

Still, I spent the week going to all the doors in the neighborhood enjoying myself and seeing all my "friends" I was getting to know.

Prozac lady did not want the products either. Actually she did not even give me a chance to tell her what I was selling, as usual, so I don't even know if she was interested or not.

But you know, that shiny perforated metal box with the button was attached to a very neat house. I bet that house would be very interested in cleaning products.

I approached my old nemesis respectfully. I pushed it's button.
